Because of its specialist expertise, The Learning Staircase was approached by Lucid Research Ltd to become their NZ distributor for a world-leading range of computerized assessment software.


We have an order form here for New Zealand customers which can be printed, posted or faxed. Private customers please include cheque with order. Orders accepted from educational establishments, please quote order number in your details. All prices are given in NZ Dollars, please see bottom of this page for Postage and Packing. Assessment software is ordered individually from the UK. Delivery normally 2-3 weeks.

About Lucid

Lucid Research Limited was incorporated in December 1995, specialising in the creation of innovative software for assessment and training that is backed up by scientific research.

Lucid’s development team work very closely with psychologists at the University of Hull, UK, as well as with educational consultants, to ensure that its assessment systems conform to the highest psychometric and educational standards.


Dr. Chris Singleton, B.A., Ph.D., C. Psychol., A.F.B.Ps.S. (Research Director).

Chris is a Chartered Psychologist and Senior Lecturer in Educational Psychology at the University of Hull. He has been involved professionally in the educational and psychological assessment of children and adults for over 20 years, and has been researching in the fields of dyslexia and literacy development for about 15 years.

Chris has over 100 research publications to his name and is Editor of the Journal of Research in Reading. His many national responsibilities include being chair of the National Working Party on Dyslexia in Higher Education and a member of the British Dyslexia Association Computer Committee. As Research Director for Lucid, Chris is responsible for research strategy and co-ordinating the psychological aspects of Lucid’s product development.



Baseline Assessment (4-5½ yrs)


The only fully computerized baseline assessment system which assesses a child's readiness for school. The program gives the teacher an instant picture of the new intake and a profile of each new entrant, which will establish levels and ranges of ability, identifying each child's strengths and limitations.

Cognitive Profiling System (4-8 yrs)


Widely used in primary and infant schools throughout the U.K. and many other countries, Lucid CoPS is a pioneering computerised screening system which can accurately predict dyslexia and other learning difficulties in young children. Lucid CoPS is being increasingly used by teachers of children with special needs.

Lucid ViSS (7-17 yrs)


An entirely objective test that is swift and easy to administer. Lucid ViSS identifies visual stress (Mearles-Irlen, scotopic sensitivity syndrome) and predicts those who should benefit from using coloured overlays or tinted lenses.







LADS: Adult Dyslexia Screening (16+ yrs)


LADS is a computerised test designed to screen for dyslexia in persons 16 years and older. The software incorporates four assessment modules, three of which are designed to measure phonological processing and working memory skills, which are typically weak in dyslexic adults despite educational intervention.







LADS Plus: Adult Dyslexia Screening (15+ yrs)


LADS Plus is a computerised screening test for identifying dyslexia in members of the general population aged 15+. LADS Plus is a new version of LADS developed to provide improved screening accuracy in wider populations that may include individuals who have non-standard educational backgrounds, low general ability, and/or poor English language skills.







Lucid Rapid Dyslexia Screening


Lucid Rapid provides teachers with a quick and easy way of identifying dyslexia in children aged 4 - 15 years. The validity and accuracy of the tests in this unique product has been proven in extensive published scientific research. The tests have each been standardised on national samples of more than 2,000 children.







Multi-Demo CD - Free On Request


The Lucid Multi-Demo CD contains working demonstration versions of all six Lucid assessment systems. It is important to note that although you can use the demos to try out assessments these should not be undertaken using 'real' pupils or students as the demos are not designed for this purpose and have some functionality disabled.
