The course is based on four pupil workbooks and a Teacher Manual. It can be used with Wordshark (specialist software programme) to provide extra reinforcement or independently. Supporting game and activity materials are available for Step 1 (see website for details).

Steps to Literacy is an intensive 'catch-up' course and is designed to achieve an increase of at least 3 years in reading/spelling age over the period of a year's tuition. The course is multi-sensory and provides considerable reinforcement in different ways. It is intended to build the processing skills involved in literacy, as well as cover the phonic and orthographic knowledge needed. All vocabulary is covered in context and the course includes reading passages, dictations and proof-reading.
